Gemini November Newsletter

Gemini maintain offices in many of the most important city locations in Asia, however we are also aware that our clients requirements may extend past our geographical reach. In 1996, Gemini joined a global organisation called NPA (National Personnel Associates), which provides us the ability to help our clients handle staffing projects anywhere in the world through our NPA partner firms.

Last week I took the opportunity to attend the NPA conference in Sydney, where despite rather autumnal weather, it seems Australia has also moved in the same positive economic direction as the rest of Asia; fuelled in large part by the construction and banking sectors. Our partners across Australia are seeing an increased demand for talent from outside Australia, a trend that had been in decline since the global financial crisis, or "GFC" as they have coined it.

The same positive news was also apparent on my brief visit to Singapore, where government building projects, as well as the new casino resorts are reversing a trend of layoffs and office relocation away from the city state. Despite this only being the start of November, the Christmas decorations were out in full-force in both Sydney and Singapore, and trust that as we ease ourselves into the end of 2009, that we have far much more to look forward to in the coming year with regards strategic demand for talent that builds your business.

As always your comments and feedback are welcome at any time callan@gemini.com.hk.

Best regards,

Succession Planning

Our clients understand the importance of recruiting, maintaining and motivating their highly skilled talent.

They are able to identify talented individuals whilst offering them the opportunity to develop their skills through training and on the job experience to bring out their natural talents. This is the essence of a well planned Succession Management strategy; the ability to take an individual's talents and aspirations and match it perfectly with the company's future goals and needs.
Happy Employees Boost Bottom Line

In a recent survey conducted by an independent research firm, more than one third of employees interviewed said their Number 1 reason for quitting their jobs was because of their dissatisfaction with management. This number has increased by 23% since the question was asked five years ago.

These numbers are disturbing as they not only mean disruption and time consuming internal practices but most importantly they will dramatically affect your organizations bottom line if the issue is not addressed.

Food for thought...

callan

Harvard and Stanford Universities have reported that 85% of the reason a person gets a job and gets ahead in that job is due to attitude; and only 15% is because of technical or specific skills.

Interesting isn't it? You spent how much money on your education? And you spent how much money on building your positive attitude? Ouch. That hurts.

Now here's an interesting thought. With the "right" attitude, you can and will develop the necessary skills.

A touch of humour...
